Walkathon and cycling rally in Tura mark World No-Tobacco Day

TURA, May 25: The District Health Society, Tura, on Saturday organised a walkathon and cycling rally here under the National Tobacco Control Programme.
The rally, which was thematised ‘My Meghalaya Tobacco-Free Meghalaya’, was held from Chandmari Playground to the Amphitheatre, (Art & Culture), Sericulture Compound, Tura.
In her speech, District Nodal officer, National Tobacco Control Programme, DHS, Dr Menokichi D Sangma, informed the gathering that the main objective of the programme was to sensitise the people and create awareness on the health hazards of tobacco use and also to encourage quitting using tobacco.
She also mentioned that the programme was held to commemorate ‘World No-Tobacco Day’, which would be observed on May 31.
It may be mentioned that the rally was flagged off by the District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills Tura, Dr Jakrambal A Sangma, who also distributed certificates and cash prizes among the winners.
