NONGPOH, May 26: An incident involving a group of bikers performing dangerous stunts on the roads has once again raised concerns about road safety in the region. This recurring issue has been witnessed along various stretches, including the roads from Shillong to Sohra in the East Khasi Hills, the Umroi Bypass, and National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi
A group of bikers, who typically choose Sundays for their risky activities, were seen on Sunday evening performing stunts on NH-6 near Jyntru in Ri-Bhoi.
The dangerous manoeuvres not only endangered the bikers themselves but also posed a significant threat to the safety of other commuters on the busy highway.
Concerned commuters, alarmed by the perilous situation, promptly reported the incident to the Nongpoh Police Station.
Responding swiftly, police officials arrived at the scene, apprehended nine bikers from Shillong, and escorted them to the station.
Following a stern warning from the police, the bikers were made to write and sign an apology letter addressed to the Traffic Branch of the Nongpoh Police Station, pledging not to repeat their hazardous activities in the future.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of reckless biking stunts in the region, calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
