Nongpoh, June 9: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) Umden and Nongpoh Circle, with support from HITO Ri Bhoi district, will begin a 24-hour road blockade on the Nongpoh-Umden road from 6 a.m. on June 10 until 6 a.m. on June 11.
The organisation called for the road blockade in support of the hunger strike by Bindas Syiem in Shillong demanding the immediate construction of the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road.
The leaders have urged the residents, headmen, women’s groups, and youth to cooperate with the blockade to show solidarity and support for Bindas Syiem.
During the blockade, only patients traveling to hospitals and students will be allowed to use the road, according to the organization’s leaders.
It may be mentioned that Bindas Syiem’s indefinite hunger strike demanding the immediate construction of the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road entered its third day on Saturday.
