AHAM condemns gang rape of minors in SWKH
Baghmara, June 14: A public meeting and a peace rally were organised by the Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) Southern Zone on Friday to condemn the gruesome kidnapping and rape of four minors from South West Khasi Hill last week.
The procession was joined by a huge gathering of students from different schools along with various NGOs including the GSU, AYWO, NGCO, and APA.
“We are outraged at the recent rape incident at SWKH and stand in solidarity with our survivor sisters. Perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions. We demand justice for the survivors and call for an end to rape culture,” AHAM said. The members stated that they would not stay silent in the face of such heinous crimes and will continue to protest till justice is served.
Progs marking Int’l Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
TURA, June 14: Awareness programmes were organised in Garo Hills to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In Ampati, the event, under the theme, ‘the evidence is clear: invest in prevention’ engaged school students in day-long educational activities and rallies, aiming to educate and empower them about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention.
The programme emphasised the importance of youth empowerment in driving change and promoting drug prevention initiatives urging students to maintain a clean lifestyle, avoid negative influences, and report any instances of substance abuse they might encounter.
A slogan writing competition on drug abuse and illicit trafficking was also held recently. Additionally, a similar awareness programme was successfully conducted at Garobadha Government Higher Secondary School.
Meanwhile, the office of the District Mental Health Programme in tandem with the District Legal Services Authority, North Garo Hills on Friday observed the day at Manikganj Secondary School Mendipathar.
