NEHUSU new body election to be held today

SHILLONG, June 23: The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) is set to elect its new office-bearers for the 2024-2025 term on Monday. The election will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at the Community Hall, NEHU, Shillong.
The campaign for the election concluded at 4 pm on Sunday. The counting of votes is scheduled to begin at 9 am on Tuesday at the NEHUSU office.
David Pyngrope, the Returning Officer (RO) for the student body election, emphasised the importance of students and research scholars bringing their ID cards on the polling day. In cases where the ID is not readily available, a bill book or certification from the concerned Head of Department will suffice as proof of identity.
Pyngrope outlined the regulations for the election, noting that the use of printed posters,  pamphlets, or any other printed materials for canvassing is prohibited. However, hand-made posters are allowed. The use of loudspeakers for canvassing is also banned. Additionally, on polling day, candidates and student organisations are not permitted to serve or distribute any consumables except for water.
The candidates for the key positions are — president: Kenny Kharbithai (Law Department, 10th semester) and Sandy Sohtun (Adult Continuing Education Department, 4th semester); vice president: Riki Deiburom Rabon (Environmental Studies Department, 2nd semester) and Phibarishisha Nongbsap (Tourism and Hotel Management Department, 2nd semester); general secretary: Toniho S Kharsati (Law Department, 6th semester) and Bantamdor Kharbhih (Political Science Department, 2nd semester).
