M’laya Chess Association to host inaugural State Senior Chess C’ship 2024

Shillong, June 30: The Meghalaya Chess Association (M.C.A) is set to organize the “1st Meghalaya State Senior (above 50 years) Chess Championship 2024” on July 19 and 20, 2024, at the Youth Hostel in Shillong. This event is part of the celebrations for “International Chess Day,” which falls on July 20, 2024.
The championship aims to bring together senior chess enthusiasts from across the state, providing a platform for competition and camaraderie.
The closing ceremony will be graced by Chief Guest Swapnil Tambe (IAS), Director of School Education and Literacy, Government of Meghalaya.
Participants will compete for a total cash prize of Rs 16,500, adding a competitive edge to this prestigious event. The M.C.A. is excited to celebrate chess and its rich tradition in Meghalaya with this landmark championship. This inaugural championship not only underscores the importance of chess as a mind sport but also highlights the enduring passion and skill of senior players in Meghalaya.
By hosting this event on International Chess Day, the Meghalaya Chess Association aims to promote the game’s values of strategic thinking, patience, and intellectual challenge.
