SHILLONG, July 27: The Arena Animation on Friday celebrated its 25th anniversary here with its Director SH Mawlong recalling the academy’s journey over the years.
According to a statement here, the programme was attended by Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh as the chief guest.
Mawlong recalled how the Arena Animation, which is the first animation academy in the Northeast, was inaugurated by (L) RG Lyngdoh back in 1999.
He said that when the academy was up and running, not everyone had heard about multimedia, animation, VFX and gaming academies.
“So, it was a big challenge for us and we faced a lot of hurdles for many years at the start. But, today this industry has become a big revolution, especially for the youth to make a new age career,” he said.
“Everyone is connected with it in different ways, from movies, the gaming sector, mobile apps, digital and print media, etc. Today, the Animation, VFX and Gaming sector is a billion-dollar industry. We have trained thousands of students over the past 25 years and all of them have been placed in the industry or doing freelancing or have opened their own studios,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the academy to date has successfully prepared a lot of students for creative careers in these high-growth areas and skill courses sponsored by the state government for the youths of Meghalaya. It is aimed at training students in the latest industry-relevant modules with the latest technical educational tools to accelerate their career development.
