NONGPOH, Aug 1: In a curious case, a youth ended his life by hanging himself inside his room early Monday, a day after two groups of youth clashed at the parking area of Umroi Airport. The deceased, identified as Khrawboklang Sten (28) from Umroi Nongrah village, was involved in the clash between a group from Iew Umroi village and another from Umeit village.
A video of the clash has also gone viral on social media.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, officers from the Khapmara Police Investigation Centre (PIC) were immediately dispatched to the scene. However, by the time they arrived, the groups had already dispersed.
His body was discovered by his mother, Diesgracia Sten, around 4:30 am. After the police arrived, family members brought down the body. Upon examining the body, the police noted that there were no visible external injuries except for the ligature marks on his neck.
Despite the police advising and informing the family about the benefits of conducting a post-mortem examination, the family, having no suspicions of foul play, requested to waive this procedure, which was subsequently approved by the magistrate.
