TURA, Aug 2: The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has issued a crucial safety notice to the residents of villages under the Rerapara Block, South West Garo Hills, in view of the upcoming test charge of a new 33 kV power line.
The renovation and restoration project, which aims to enhance power supply reliability, will commence tentatively from August 3 to 8. The new power line, extending from Gongglanggre to Rerapara, is integral to the commissioning of the 33/11 kV 2 x 2.5 MVA Rerapara substation.
The testing phase, according to the MePDCL, is a critical step before the line can be fully operational.
Residents in the affected areas, including Gongglanggre, Balnanggre, Goramara, Asinagre, Harigaon, Mukdanggra Ghatgre, Dorambokgre, Jewilgre, Balalgre, Chimisenggre, Damalgre, and Rerapara, have been warned not to touch any electrical poles or wires, or to allow cattle or domestic animals near these installations during this period.
This statutory warning is issued to prevent any accidents or injuries that may occur due to ignorance of the potential hazards posed by the high-voltage testing.
The MePDCL has also made it clear that it will not assume responsibility for any accidents arising from non-compliance with this notice.
“It is also requested that if anybody see any electric wire/conductor or observed any flashing or abnormal sound it should be immediately reported to the lineman of your area or the nearest MePDCL Office,” the MePDCL said.
