Rehab custodians celebrate anniv of service for troubled youths

NONGPOH, Aug 5: Leaders of the Church of God in the state, who manage and oversee the Jingaiei rehabilitation centre in Syadrit, Ri-Bhoi, organised a special celebration on Monday to mark the one-year anniversary of their service to youths addicted to various substances, aiming to transform their lives.
The event was attended by KHADC Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem along with Pastor GA Kharshiing, Pastor M Shangpliang, Pastor R Imiong, Pastor AM Mihsil, Pastor K Nongpluh, the staff of the rehabilitation centre, and members of the Church of God.
In their speeches, the pastors shared that the journey over the past year had not been easy, filled with numerous challenges. They expressed that humanly, there were moments when they considered shutting down the centre, but they managed to continue their mission of giving a new life to troubled youths.
They also informed that currently, the centre can only accommodate 10 youths for treatment, but at present, they have 12 of them due to the critical need to provide care and support, ensuring they can have a fresh start once they leave the centre.
KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem, in his speech, expressed happiness to be part of the first anniversary celebration of the rehabilitation centre’s journey in transforming the lives of addicted youths.
He praised the centre stating that it not only provides physical nourishment but also spiritual nourishment to the youths seeking treatment. He further mentioned that it is time for those who have recovered from addiction to come forward and become messengers to spread the word, helping to free other youths from the grip of addiction.
Regarding the centre’s needs, Syiem announced that the KHADC would allocate around Rs 10 lakh for expanding and creating new rooms at the centre.
He also shared that following his intervention, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma allocated Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister Special Development Fund to purchase a generator to ensure a stable power supply at the centre.
