SHILLONG, Aug 11: In a befitting tribute, Bethany Hospital Outreach Nongpoh celebrated its 10th anniversary on Friday, concluding a decade of dedicated service to the community with a grand event, which was attended by prominent figures, including the Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who served as the chief guest, and Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem as the guest of honour.
A highlight of the event was the inauguration of the district’s first dialysis unit at the hospital, marking a significant advancement in local healthcare services. Additionally, a commemorative souvenir was released, and a bust of late Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang, the founder of Bethany Hospitals, was unveiled to honour his lasting legacy.
In her keynote speech, Dr Ampareen commended Bethany Hospital for its commitment to providing quality healthcare in Nongpoh and surrounding areas. She highlighted the hospital’s adherence to the core values of ‘Compassion, Care, and Commitment’, which were exemplified by Dr Ryntathiang.
She also expressed her gratitude to the hospital for making dialysis services available locally, a milestone that enhances healthcare accessibility in the region.
Guest of honour Mayralborn Syiem echoed this sentiment, recalling Dr Sailo’s inspiring words, “I dare to dream,” and likening them to Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous vision. He praised the hospital for its high standards of care, job creation, and the warm environment fostered by its staff.
Hospital Director Achula D Sailo shared the poignant story behind the establishment of Bethany Hospital Outreach in Nongpoh. She recounted how the tragic death of a chowkidar’s wife, who passed away en route to Shillong for treatment, deeply affected her late husband, Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang. This event, coupled with the difficulties faced by patients traveling long distances for healthcare, inspired Dr Sailo’s mission to provide quality healthcare locally. She also highlighted the hospital’s expansion over the past decade, including new services in Byrnihat and Umsning, underscoring its commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of rural communities.
The event also included a thanksgiving session led by Rev Lyndan Syiem, Pastor-in-charge of Mawroh Presbyterian Church in Shillong, who expressed gratitude for the hospital’s achievements and prayed for its future success. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by David VL Sailo Kharsatiang, Chief Financial Officer of Bethany Hospitals, who acknowledged the contributions of the dignitaries, staff, and community members in the hospital’s journey.
