Not your average graffiti!
There’s something about a can of spray paint that brings out the inner artist in Shillongites, or at least, their inner rebel. And what better canvas than the plan walls, and in this case, Dhanketi’s overbridge, once infamous for being a hangout spot for empty alcohol bottles and assorted trash?
But now the overbridge has undergone a transformation that has left even modern art connoisseurs shaking their heads where once stood grimy walls, now can give a gallery a run for its money.
Of course, not all the contributions are what you might call “high art.”
Alongside the abstract shapes and bold colours, there’s also a generous sprinkling of what can only be described as unique expressions of creativity.
One particular bit of wisdom scrawled saying, “Every girl needs an interesting guy.” A rather peculiar place to broadcast your dating preferences, ain’t it? But as rightly said, creativity knows no bounds, and neither, apparently, does the urge to share one’s thoughts on love and relationships with the world.
And in the grand scheme of things, some of them less suitable for public consumption, and that in a matrilineal society, but the vulgarity do not know any society bounds, does it?
One can turn thy eye, as art is subjective, and in Shillong, it seems that everyone’s a critic.
