SHILLONG, Aug 14: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has taken a strong note of the advocacy of the VPP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit to have a Bangladesh-like revolution in Meghalaya. “How they have vandalised the statue of the founder of the country, how they have vandalised the statue of U Tirot Sing and (Rabindranath) Tagore. If you want that as an inspiration and mode for your growth, it is up to you,” Lyngdoh said.
Earlier, NPP leader Rakkam A Sangma had slammed VPP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit’s recent call for a Bangladesh-like revolution in Meghalaya saying politics should have limitations and not cross a certain boundary. He also emphasisied that no individual should take any reference from the incident in Bangladesh where hundreds of people were killed and even the prime minister was forced to flee the country and take shelter in India.
On the sidelines, Lyngdoh admitted that there is a slight drop in the number of tourists from Bangladesh visiting Meghalaya. He, however, said that the situation is fast returning to normal in the neighbouring country.
