Two budding footballers die in lightning strike
Latehar, Aug 29: At least two budding football players died, and 10 others were injured after they were struck by lightning in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Thursday, police said. The incident happened at Itke village under the jurisdiction of Bariatu police station area in the afternoon when they were playing football, the Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Balumath, Ashutosh Kumar Satyam, said. 2nd nuke-powered missile submarine commissioned
New Delhi, Aug 29: India’s second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine was commissioned into the Navy on Thursday in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who said this will further strengthen the country’s nuclear triad and enhance nuclear deterrence. The ceremony for commissioning took place in Visakhapatnam. The second Arihant-Class submarine ‘INS Arighaat’ was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Thursday at Visakhapatnam in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the defence ministry said in a statement. Man dies after python around neck tightens grip
Jamshedpur, Aug 29: In a bizarre incident, a 60-year-old man allegedly died of suffocation on Thursday after a python he was carrying around his neck tightened its grip in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur city, police said. He used to earn money by showing the snake around his neck to people. The incident occurred when the victim, Hemant Singh, was on Dimna Road in Mango area. Following this, the python made its way out and moved around in the area before a snake catcher captured it. (PTI)
342 special trains to run for Ganesh festival
Mumbai, Aug 29: As many as 342 special trains will be operated for the next month’s Ganesh festival, Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday. Lakhs of people travel to their native places in Konkan from Mumbai every year during the ten-day festival, slated to start from September 7. There was a demand for 300 Konkan-bound Ganpati special trains, but the Indian Railways has decided to operate 342 special trains, the minister said, speaking through video link at the flagging off of the inaugural run of a bi-weekly train between Bandra Terminus in Mumbai and Madgaon in Goa.
