SHILLONG, Aug 29: Mylliem MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh faced the ire of the public on Thursday as he was urged to leave early for the Assembly session while stuck in heavy traffic.
The incident occurred as Lyngdoh, despite having an escort, struggled through the congested streets, taking over an hour to reach the House for the ongoing Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
During the Question Hour, Lyngdoh maintained that the severe traffic jams are not only a nightmare for the general public but also for elected representatives.
He shared that even though he left for the session at 9 am, he still arrived 10 minutes late due to the traffic congestion.
Lyngdoh then went on to emphasize the need for more arterial roads in his constituency.
Meanwhile, responding to his concerns, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong informed the House that the department is planning to construct a new road from Lawsohtun, connecting it with NH-40 at Upper Shillong.
He added that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared, and forest clearance is awaited for the project to move forward.
