SHILLONG, Sep 1: The Dorbar Shnong Nongsohphoh Upper Mawprem has strongly condemned the recent filing of an FIR against its secretary, Hardy Ryntathiang, by a woman at Lumdiengjri Police Station, accusing him of outraging her modesty. The Dorbar Shnong has dismissed these allegations as false and baseless.
In an official statement, Rangbah Shnong of Nongsohphoh, Johny Kharmawlong, emphasised that the Secretary, elected by local residents and empowered by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, is responsible for the administration and maintenance of law and order in the locality. He further stated that the FIR not only targets the Secretary but is also seen as an attack on the entire Dorbar Shnong Nongsohphoh Upper Mawprem.
Kharmawlong suggested that the FIR is a retaliatory action, following an earlier FIR filed by the Secretary of the Dorbar Shnong on August 17, 2024. This initial FIR was lodged after a drug peddler, reportedly related to the complainant, was caught and apprehended by the executive members of the Shnong, along with the Seng Longkmie and Seng Samla.
Stating that the Dorbar Shnong believes that the FIR against Ryntathiang is motivated by an intent to tarnish his image and that of the Dorbar Shnong, it has decided to issue a stern warning to anyone associated with those making baseless allegations.
