SHILLONG, Sep 5: The Labang Nongphyllut Pangam Raliang Area Committee has submitted a petition to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, seeking the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to address the ongoing border dispute. The group has requested that the JAC be established within a month and be comprised of representatives from the central government, the Assam government, and the Meghalaya government.
The petition highlights the need for the JAC to focus specifically on the welfare of the people in the Labang Nongphyllut area.
It calls for coordinated efforts by the three governments, emphasising that development, welfare, and security initiatives should not be hindered by conflicts between the authorities.
The committee has also urged the government to convene an urgent meeting with Assam to resolve the boundary dispute and ensure that the interests of the residents of the disputed area are protected.
