TURA, Sep 10: The ACHIK has urged Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to ensure the appointment of an anaesthetist at the Tura Civil Hospital.
In its appeal to the health minister on Tuesday, the organisation said that the absence of a dedicated anaesthetist had placed an immense strain on the hospital’s ability to deliver essential surgical services.
“Patients requiring surgeries are either forced to wait for extended periods or travel to distant hospitals, causing undue suffering and financial burden on the community. The lack of an anaesthetist also compromises the hospital’s ability to handle emergencies, which can lead to life-threatening situations,” the ACHIK said.
It also urged the health department to reconsider the appointments of non-Garo candidates to the post of lab technicians at the hospital, maintaining that the appointment of non-local candidates could lead to challenges in communication and cultural sensitivity.
It also suggested the appointment of local candidates as Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists (MLTT). “Appointing local MLTTs will not only ensure that there is no language or cultural barrier in patient care but will also promote employment opportunities within the local population,” it added.
