SHILLONG, Sep 11: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has issued a stern reminder to motorists about the dangers of overtaking from the left and improper lane usage, warning that such habits pose serious risks to road users, including pedestrians and passengers. The advisory comes in the wake of several ongoing violations, despite repeated warnings.
The STP highlighted that vehicles, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, continue to overtake from the left side, which could result in fatal accidents, particularly when passengers are embarking or disembarking from vehicles. Additionally, the department raised concerns about vehicles being parked haphazardly, especially in “No Parking” areas, further obstructing traffic flow and inconveniencing other commuters.
In response to these violations, the STP has ramped up regular checks across the city. “Motorists are urged to strictly follow traffic rules and driving etiquettes to ensure safety on the roads,” it said.
