TURA, Sep 12: In a bid to ensure every child in Meghalaya has access to education, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), in collaboration with Red FM 93.5 and the Education Department, has launched the ‘Back-to-School’ campaign in South West Garo Hills.
The initiative, under the slogan ‘Opening Doors for Education to Children’ and the tagline ‘Securing Free and Compulsory Education to Children of Meghalaya’, aims to reintegrate school dropouts in the district back into the education system.
At the heart of the campaign, which was launched in Garobadha and Ampati markets on Thursday, is the promotion of education as a fundamental right under Article 21A of the Constitution of India.
Through public outreach, the campaign highlights the alternative educational opportunities available, such as the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), to ensure no child is left behind. Speakers emphasised that education is the foundation of a just society and empowers individuals to understand and safeguard their rights.
Addressing the public on Thursday, officials underscored the importance of education as a “factory” that shapes individuals into productive and responsible citizens members of society.
They reminded parents of their critical role in ensuring their children receive formal education, irrespective of challenges like poverty, financial crises or early marriage. The campaign also provided crucial information to parents and guardians, including the toll-free helpline 15100, which allows school dropouts to return to school, irrespective of their age. They also informed that the centre for NIOS registration in the district is Springfield School Ampati.
The event also featured a quiz competition and a dance performance to engage the audience, emphasising the importance of education.
Key speakers included Red FM 93.5’s RJ, Tapos Marak, School Education Officer of South West Garo Hills, and members of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
