Experts stress on collaboration for sustainable devp of agriculture
SHILLONG, Sep 18: Experts at a one-day consultation meet held at the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam, stressed on the need for collaboration among stakeholders to implement effective agro-ecological practices. The event, organised by the Alliance of Biodiversity International and CIAT, New Delhi, focused on sustainable agricultural development in the region. The meet underscored the crucial role of agro-ecology in tackling pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity. Eminent speakers, including Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, and Dr Malavika Dadlani, National Consultant for Alliance Bioversity and CIAT, addressed the gathering. Participants engaged in parallel sessions and group discussions, sharing their experiences and challenges in promoting sustainable agriculture. The meet emphasized the importance of collaboration between farmers, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to successfully implement agro-ecological practices. Insights from the consultation will guide future policy decisions, research projects, and farmer training programs aimed at advancing sustainable agriculture in Meghalaya.
NEIGRIHMS launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’
SHILLONG, Sep 18: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ fortnight initiative with a ‘Swachhata Pledge’. The campaign, which is part of India’s largest cleanliness movement, will run from September 17 to October 2, under the theme Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata. The inaugural programme was attended by NEIGRIHMS Officiating Director, Senior Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Raphael, and Medical Superintendent, Prof. (Dr.) C. Daniala, along with faculty members, nursing officers, students, and staff. In support of the Swachhata campaign, the NEIGRIHMS will also organise activities in the coming days, including a ‘Waste to Art’ competition, a community cleaning drive, and health check-up camps for the sanitation staff.
Five-day musical training prog
SHILLONG, Sep 18: The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC) of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) successfully concluded a five-day “Musical Troupe” training program, held at Wahiajer from September 13 to 17. The programme aimed to provide high-quality performing arts training to local artists and music enthusiasts, helping them enhance their musical skills and realise their artistic potential. The training attracted a diverse group of young local artists eager to take their skills to the next level. Participants received advanced musical training, including practical demonstrations led by renowned Bollywood film producer and distributor, Prasenjit Mishra, who shared his extensive experience in the Indian film industry. The valedictory function was graced by NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla, who served as the chief guest. Prof Shukla praised the success of the programme and reaffirmed NEHU’s commitment to enhancing the talents of young artists. He emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment where local youths can explore and grow their musical abilities. “These vital skills are essential in the world of performing arts,” Prof Shukla said, adding that developing such talents allows artists to communicate with broader audiences and collaborate with diverse creators.
