Kolkata, Sep 19: Agitating junior doctors on Thursday submitted a draft of the key points from their talks with the West Bengal government to Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and are now awaiting the state’s response to their proposals.
The e-mail, detailing the points which were discussed and agreed upon by the two sides and also those which weren’t, was shot off as per the state’s requirement based on which the government is expected to issue directives, the doctors said.
The talks between junior doctors and officials of the state government on Wednesday night failed to resolve the impasse between the two sides.
Medics have struck work for the past 40 days since the brutal torture and killing of a post graduate trainee doctor at RG Kar hospital came to light on August 9.
Doctors alleged that the state refused to provide written minutes of the meeting and announced they will continue with their agitation and ‘cease work’ movement till the government issues written directives on safety and security concerns of doctors in state-run hospitals as agreed in the meeting.
“While the talks went smoothly, the government refused to hand over signed and written minutes of the issues which were discussed. We are feeling let down and disappointed with the government’s attitude,” Dr Aniket Mahato, one of the agitating doctors, said after coming out of the meeting.
The second round of meeting between the state-level public healthcare task force headed by Pant and a delegation of 30 junior doctors was held at the state secretariat Nabanna.
The first round was held in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat residence on Monday.
The protesting doctors are continuing with their sit-in demonstration before Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the state health department in Salt Lake, which is now on its 10th day. (PTI)

Ex-RG Kar principal’s medical registration cancelled
Kolkata, Sep 19: The West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) on Thursday cancelled the registration of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s former principal Sandip Ghosh, an official said. Ghosh, who is in CBI custody, has been removed from the list of Registered Medical Practitioners maintained by the WBMC, he said.
His licence was cancelled under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act of 1914, the official said.
He is an orthopaedic surgeon and without the licence, he cannot practice. Ghosh was arrested by the CBI on September 2 for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities at the hospital amid the protests over the rape and murder of the on-duty trainee doctor. He was later accused of evidence tampering in the rape-murder case. Aniket Mahato, one of the leading faces of the junior doctors who have been agitating over the death of their colleague, described it as a “victory”. “This is a victory for our deceased sister. The cancellation of Ghosh’s medical registration should have been done the very next day of his arrest. We are happy that the West Bengal Medical Council has finally taken this step,” he said.
TMC MLA appears before ED
TMC MLA Sudipto Roy appeared before the ED here on Thursday for questioning in a money-laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, official sources said. Roy is president of the West Bengal Medical Council and also holds charge of the RG Kar Patients’ Welfare Committee. He was earlier questioned by the CBI, which is also probing into the alleged irregularities. The TMC lawmaker arrived at the ED office in the Salt Lake area around 1 pm. The premises of the MLA from Sreerampur in Hooghly district, apart from that of some others, was also searched by the ED on Tuesday. (Agencies)
