Lecture
Women’s College, Shillong, on Thursday hosted the Fifteenth Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Endowment Lecture, which was attended by Chief Electoral Office Dr. BDR Tiwari as the chief guest. In his address, Tiwari highlighted Vidyasagar’s remarkable contributions as an educator, social reformer, writer and philanthropist. Others who were part of the programme include Prof. Sangit Ragi of Department of Political Science, Delhi University, as well as college principal, faculty members and students, et al.

Annual rituals
“Langban Heishoi Katpa”, an annual ritual for the departed, performed to honour and remember the deceased and to express gratitude to ancestors of the seven clans (salais) of the Meiteis (Manipuris) is going to be observed at Buddha Temple, Polo Hills, Shillong, at 10.30 am on Sunday. The programme will be organised by Ibudhou Pakhangba Thougal Lup (IPTL), Shillong, a cultural and religious organisation of the Meitei indigenous faith.

Scholarship
National Scholarship Portal (NSP) has been integrated with the Common Service Centre (CSC) for One Time Registration (OTR) facility, scholarship form filling, biometric authentication etc., informed the Director of Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya. After submission of Aadhaar number, the system/portal will provide an option for biometric authentication in ‘self-mode’ using face-authentication or in ‘assisted-mode’ for all modes of biometric authentication at CSCs. The system is live from September 15 so that stakeholders can generate OTR and fill their scholarship application form, etc., through CSCs.

Dry days
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills, has declared the October 2, 11 and 12 as dry days in the entire district of East Khasi Hills on account of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ and ‘Durga Puja’ respectively. All bonded warehouses, IMFL “OFF” and “ON” shops, homemade wine licencees, wine and beer licencees, home delivery licensees, canteens and outstills will remain closed on the aforementioned days.

Pass-out parade
A total of 36 people, including 22 men and 14 women, on Thursday were inducted into the MPSS Security Agency following the completion of a 45-day training, during a passing-out ceremony held at a training centre in Thadmuthlong C Phramer, West Jaintia Hills. The MPSS Security Agency is a recognized by Home (Police) department. The training was conducted by the agency under the leadership of its Managing Director, P Muksor.
