Road mishap
An unidentified motorist was killed on the spot on Saturday morning after his two-wheeler lost control and fell under a fuel truck (NL01L0813). The tragic accident occurred along NH-6 at Wahiajer village, near the JUD cement factory.

Reopening
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has informed that all border haats in the district will reopen from October 1.

Dry day
The Offices of the South West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner (Excise) have declared dry day in their respective districts on October 2 on account of Gandhi Jayanti. In this regard, all liquor shops, wholesalers, IMF retailers, bars, canteens, and outstills in SWKH and EJH districts have been directed to remain closed on the aforesaid date.

Clean-up drives
As part of the observation of ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024’, clean-up drives were organised at various locations in West Garo Hills on Saturday. Residents of Rongram area, along with the staff of the Block Development Office, Rongram, NSS volunteers, Tura Government College students, et al, were among others who participated in the cleanliness drive organised at Rongram weekly market, Ganol river, etc.
The District Legal Services Authority, Shillong, as part of the Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024 campaign, will organise a clean-up drive on from 8 am onwards on Monday at Polo Market area.
The Miriam Russell Women’s College will organise a cleaning drive at William Point and Gandhi Park, Tura, at 6:30 am on October 2 as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebration.

School week
Curtain came down on the three-day annual school week, organised by the Don Bosco Secondary School Mihmyntdu, on Friday. During the annual school week, which was inaugurated by local headman Mihmyntdu Abul Phawa on Wednesday, students participated in various competitions, some of which included dancing, singing, quiz, extempore speech, essay writing, recitation and fancy dress.

Programme
Students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEHU Shillong, came together for plantation and clean-up drives during a programme, organised by Central Bureau of Communication, Shillong, on Saturday. During the programme, students also showcased their talents in drawing and elocution.
