Shillong, Oct 4: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) made a triumphant return from the 11th North East Zone Shooting Championship, held in Dimapur, Nagaland, from September 25 to October 1, 2024.
A 53-member contingent from SAM showcased their skills in rifle and pistol events, bringing home an impressive total of 28 medals—six gold, twelve silver, and ten bronze. The remarkable performance of the Meghalaya shooters highlighted the talent and dedication within the state’s shooting community. Notably, three hearing-impaired shooters from Meghalaya also participated in the competition, securing medals and demonstrating their commitment and passion for the sport. The intense heat during the event, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, posed a challenge for rifle shooters.
Despite the adverse conditions, the team’s pistol shooters stepped up and significantly boosted the overall medal tally, making up for the losses faced by their rifle counterparts.
SAM expressed its gratitude to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, as well as the event organizers, officials, and supporters whose efforts contributed to the team’s success.
