Discussion on caste census likely on Oct 18, says K’taka CM
BENGALURU, Oct 7: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that the Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, popularly known as the caste census, will “most likely” be placed before the Cabinet for discussion on October 18, and the government will act further in accordance with the decision taken in the meeting. Siddaramaiah on Monday held discussions with ministers and legislators from backward-class communities. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the chief minister said members of Parliament were also invited for the meeting, but no one came. About 30 legislators attended the meeting, including BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar. “They have given me a request letter. In the letter, most importantly, they demanded the government should accept the Socio-Economic and Education Survey report and implement it. I want to clarify this is not a caste survey of backward classes, it is a survey of 7 crore Kannadigas,” he said. (PTI)

300 fall ill after drinking contaminated water in Noida
NEW DELHI, Oct 7: The NGT has sought a response from authorities, including the district magistrate of Greater Noida, in a matter regarding the supply of contaminated water to a housing society. The NGT had taken suo motu cognisance of a newspaper report, according to which water containing E coli bacteria and bleaching powder was recently supplied to Supertech Ecovillage 2 in Greater Noida West. Consumption of the contaminated water led to over 300 residents, including 170 children, falling ill. In its order dated October 1, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava said, “The news item raises substantial issues relating to compliance of provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and the Environment Protection Act.” “Issue notice to the above respondents for filing their response in the form of an affidavit at least one week before the next date of hearing,” said the NGT. 7-year-old boy sexually assaulted by two minors
Indore, Oct 7: A seven-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by two teenagers near a garba pandal in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, police said on Monday. According to the complaint lodged by the boy’s mother, the assault occurred on the night of October 4 when her son was playing in a garden near a garba pandal, an official said. An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of POCSO Act at Kanadia police station, and a probe has been initiated, he said. The official said the minors involved in the assault were around 13 years old, and the boy’s mother has said the act was caught on the CCTV camera in the area. (PTI)
