Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: The 35th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship, held from October 7 to 9, 2024, saw Meghalaya athletes securing a total of four medals despite limited preparation time.
Rikangku D Sangma clinched a silver medal in the U-14 Boys’ Javelin event with a remarkable throw of 52.35 meters. In the U-20 Women’s High Jump, Anrisha Klein won a silver medal by clearing a height of 1.53 meters, while Rinalis Ingti took home the bronze with a jump of 1.50 meters.
The highlight of the competition was the U-20 Mixed 4x400m relay, where Donbok Shabong, Renaldi Dhar, Bethylene G Makri, and Damika R Lyngdoh delivered an outstanding performance to claim the gold medal with a time of 3:48.45 minutes.
Meghalaya’s final medal tally stood at one gold, two silver, and one bronze. Despite the limited time for preparation, many athletes achieved personal bests in their respective events.
The Meghalaya Athletics Association extended its congratulations to all the medal winners and the other athletes who competed with dedication.
Special thanks were also given to Chief Coach Daisy Marwein, along with coaches Fidellia Sun, Amin Kharkongor, and Pleasantly Synnah, for their exceptional guidance.
Gratitude was expressed to the Director of Sports, D Shira, and Paia B War Nongbri for their support.
This strong showing has instilled hope that with more preparation time in the next edition, Meghalaya athletes will bring home even more medals for the state.
With greater preparation and continued support from the coaches, officials, and the sports department, the Meghalaya Athletics Association is optimistic about an even stronger performance in future competitions.
