SHILLONG, Oct 15: The Seng Khasi Kmie will host the third edition of the Na Thymmei Festival – Celebrating the Essence of Indigeneity – at Madan Weiking, Jaiaw, on October 26 and 27.
Seng Khasi Kmie cultural secretary, Hmarsing Kharmar, announced on Tuesday that the festival will focus on showcasing the rich culture and traditions of the state.
The event will feature a specially curated programme, including rarely seen traditional dances, folk music, dramas, workshops, and presentations on indigenous wisdom and knowledge. Visitors can also enjoy indigenous cuisine and witness the unique traditional fashion contest, “Ka Lukhimai & U Nai Khadsaw Synñia.”
Kharmar highlighted that the festival will offer visitors a deeper understanding and appreciation of indigenous culture and traditional art forms.
In addition to celebrating ancient traditions, the event will also provide a platform for troupes and artists who are creating new expressions from the timeless heritage passed down by their ancestors.
The festival will be held at the historic Weiking Ground, where the famous ‘Shad Suk Mynsiem’ (Dance of the Joyous Souls) is held annually.
The event will be organised with support from the Department of Tourism.
