Resubelpara, Oct 26: A Garo Hills-based YouTuber has filed a police complaint against Chokpot Block Development Officer (BDO) Jericho N Sangma as well as the president and secretary of Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Chokpot unit, alleging that he received threats over a clip he had made following floods in the region a few weeks ago.
The complainant, Tatu Marak, accused the BDO and GSU leaders of targeting for using the clip on a news channel.
Earlier, following the news report, the BDO had issued a show-cause notice to Marak for his content on his channel, NEIG News.
Marak had earlier visited the village of Tangki Badima in Chokpot, which was badly affected by the torrential rains and apparently was still waiting for support from the government.
Marak stated that he had interviewed multiple women who were from the village and who he had no earlier association with, and asked them questions on whether had received any government relief, to which the villagers had replied in negative.
“I had no mala fide intention and the questions were not scripted in any way. As a freelancer, I uploaded the same to my channel after which I have been targeted by the above-mentioned people,” said Marak in the FIR.
The YouTuber mentioned that the delay in filing the police complaint was due to fear of possible reprisal from the above-mentioned persons.
