SHILLONG, Oct 29: Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command (EAC), Indian Air Force, paid a courtesy visit to Governor CH Vijayashankar, at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, on Tuesday.
During their meeting, the Governor and the Air Marshal discussed the role of the Indian Air Force in safeguarding the defence and security of the Northeastern region, along with its contributions to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The Governor commended the Air Marshal and his team for their professionalism, dedication, and the critical role played by the EAC in protecting the nation’s sovereignty. He also expressed his gratitude for the IAF’s support to the people of Meghalaya and the Northeastern states during natural calamities.
In a separate meeting, Dr Kestonbel Manik Syiemlieh, president of the Federation of Khasi States, accompanied by a delegation from the Federation, also paid a courtesy visit to the Governor.
The delegation discussed various issues concerning the welfare and development of the indigenous Khasi people, as well as matters related to the traditional governance systems of the Khasi States.
Dr Syiemlieh briefed the Governor on the historical and cultural significance of the Khasi States and their role in preserving the rich heritage of the region.
The Governor expressed his appreciation for the Federation’s efforts in promoting and preserving the traditions and customs of the Khasi people, underscoring the importance of safeguarding indigenous knowledge in the modern era. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts between traditional institutions and the state government to ensure the socio-economic development of local communities.
Dr Syiemlieh and the delegation thanked the Governor for his support and recognition of the Federation’s work and shared their commitment to contributing to the progress of the state and its people.
