Shillong, Oct 30: Rangdajied United FC secured their first win in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 by beating Ryntih FC 3-0 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here on Wednesday evening.
After an inconclusive first half where there were missed chances for both sides, Pasborlang Khonglikong (78’, 90’+3) and Manbhakupar Iawphniaw (88’) turned the game on its head and netted Rangdajied their first points of the season.
Ryntih have never beaten RUFC in the SPL and that unwelcome record continues for them. Since the 2019 SPL Rangdajied have won five times and drawn once, including today.
Both sides made several changes to their starting lineups from their respective previous matches and it took time for the players to get into a groove. After earlier rattling the woodwork with a powerful shot, Pasborlang sent in a long-range attempt from out of the blue that Ryntih’s substitute goalkeeper Luckystar Lawai was able to get a hand to but could not stop from going into the net. Manbhakupar’s shot took a heavy deflection and to beat Lucky in the 88th but there was no luck needed for Rangdajied’s third goal as a long ball into the box was tapped towards Pasborlang by a team mate and he executed a fine shot to make it 3-0 before the final whistle.
On Thursday, bottom side Nongthymmai SC will take on Nongrim Hills SC at 5:30pm. Rangdajied United FC’s clinical 3-0 win over Ryntih FC not only marked their first victory in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 but also underscored their continued dominance over Ryntih, a streak dating back to 2019.
The breakthrough came late, with Pasborlang Khonglikong and Manbhakupar Iawphniaw taking control in the final 15 minutes to swing the game decisively in Rangdajied’s favor. Pasborlang’s spectacular long-range goal, followed by Manbhakupar’s deflected shot, showcased the team’s ability to capitalize when it matters most. The evening was capped by Pasborlang’s precise finish in stoppage time, leaving Ryntih with yet another frustrating outcome against their rivals.
For Rangdajied, this victory brings a welcome boost as they look to gain momentum, while Ryntih will need to reflect on adjustments to break their winless run against this familiar opponent.
