JOWAI, Nov, 6: The members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), Jaintia Hills, along with leaders from the Jowai circle, on Wednesday called on West Jaintia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), seeking immediate relief from the district administration to the farmers affected by hailstorm on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the organisation briefed the ADC about the extensive damage to agricultural fields caused by heavy rain and hailstorm.
According to them, the severe weather caused significant damage to the rice fields of the villagers in the region.
The HITO then called for government intervention to assist those who have sustained crop damage, emphasising the urgent need for support.
It further stressed that the government should expedite the disbursement of aid to farmers, with a clear expectation that compensation or relief funds should be allocated by the end of the month, in alignment with the estimated losses to agricultural produce.
The organisation reiterated that timely assistance is crucial to help the affected farmers recover and continue their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the official has assured the delegation that the district office would take prompt action following the submission of a detailed report from the Block Development Officer (BDO).
The administration indicated that necessary steps would be initiated as soon as the report is received to assess the extent of the damage and determine appropriate remedial measures.
