TURA, Nov 11: Alert residents of the village of Raphangphangre apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals along the international border of Bangladesh after they allegedly entered India illegally, apparently on their way to Tamil Nadu.
The incident comes after at least 12 such instances being reported over the past two months in the two districts of West and South West Garo Hills.
The alert villagers handed over the two infiltrators to the Nokma of the village before they were then handed over to the Mahendraganj police station under which the village falls.
“We had prior inputs of an infiltration bid and were alert and asked villagers to be alert as well. They were caught by the villagers and then handed over to us. Upon questioning, they also informed that their entry was facilitated by an Indian national from Goalpara in Assam. We are going to take him into custody soon,” informed SWGH Superintendent of Police, Vikas Yadav.
The two arrested foreign nationals have been identified as Amirul Islam (19 of Chaklamath, Fatula, Naraynaganj) and Nazmul Hassan (22 of Paschimdeb, Narayanganj). They were arrested under the Foreigners’ Act.
