JOWAI, Nov 22: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), Western Zone, has urged Mowkaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh to address pressing infrastructure challenges in Block 1 villages along the border areas.
Led by its president Hamehi Bamon, the JNC called on the MLA on Friday and submitted a memorandum, highlighting critical concerns, including road connectivity, electrification, healthcare services and census data issues.
During the meeting, the JNC pointed out that villages such as Myntang, Khadkhasla, Psiar, Mowluber, Skap Mowput, Chnong Thymmei, Mowjem and Madan Nangkylla were suffering due to poor road conditions.
According to the JNC, inadequate drainage systems further worsen these conditions during the rainy season, disrupting transportation, reducing access to healthcare, limiting economic opportunities and increasing travel time for residents.
The organisation also flagged the issue of subpar access to electricity in villages of Mowluber, Skap Mowput, Chnong Thymmei, Mowjem and Madan Nangkylla.
It maintained that access to electricity is essential for the economic and social development of these communities.
Further, the JNC also called for ambulances to serve seven villages, ensuring timely medical assistance and emergency care for residents.
The Council also raised concerns about the absence of census data for villages such as Mowluber, Skap Mowput, Mowjem, Mowlaiñ and Madan Nangkylla. They argued that without accurate data, these villages remain invisible to the government, complicating efforts to allocate resources effectively and leading to disparities in development initiatives.
Meanwhile, the MLA, in his response, assured the JNC that he would take up the aforesaid issues with the government to ensure that the same were resolved, provide much-needed relief to the people in the region.
