2 minor siblings drown in SWKH village stream

MAWKYRWAT, Nov 30: In a tragic incident, two minor siblings from Laitnong village, located about 12 kilometres from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district, drowned in a nearby stream on Thursday evening while playing in the water.
The victims have been identified as Sukkyrhai Lyngkhoi (5) and Banshan Lyngkhoi (3).
According to official sources, the incident occurred at a stream in Laitkynja, around 100 metres from their residence.
Witness accounts revealed that the three-year-old boy accidentally fell into the water, prompting his elder sister to jump in to save him. Unfortunately, both drowned.
A five-year-old girl who witnessed the incident immediately ran to inform their parents. Subsequently, villagers arrived at the scene and managed to retrieve the children’s bodies from the stream.
Meanwhile, authorities have conducted all necessary procedures before handing over the bodies to the family for their last rites.
