Dy CM lays base for major road project in WJH

JOWAI, Dec 1: In a significant step towards infrastructure development in the region, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction and improvement of the UN Road at Pdeiñ Mukhim, Sohphoh Mookabeng, and Kdohkule in West Jaintia Hills. The project, spanning 21.255 km, is expected to enhance road connectivity in the area with an investment of Rs 100 crore.
In addition to the roadwork, the Deputy Chief Minister announced several other developmental initiatives. These include projects worth Rs 2 crore under the Tourism department, such as the creation of a Children’s Park near the Stadium. Furthermore, an ambulance was inaugurated for the Wahiajer Multi-Sports Complex.
Earlier, a meeting was held at the Pdeiñ Mukhim Tourist Spot in Wahiajer, chaired by Kharnaior, the Superintending Engineer of PWD (Roads), Jowai Circle.
The meeting was attended by dignitaries, including Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, MLA Damanbait Lamare, former MLA Ngaitlang Dhar, government officials, and the Superintendents of Police from West and East Jaintia Hills.
During his address, Deputy Chief Minister Dhar highlighted various developmental initiatives he has undertaken in the constituency and across Jaintia Hills.
He emphasised his commitment to improving road infrastructure, including roads connecting the constituency, the Block, and the Police Station at Nartiang, as well as the Wahiajer complex, which aims to foster youth engagement in sports.
Dhar also mentioned the 90 villages in the Nartiang constituency, noting that it was the first constituency to receive Rs 170 crore for drinking water supply development.
He further announced the development of a Tourism Complex near Thadlaskeiñ Lake.
Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the ML72 Rising Society at Pdeiñ Mukhim tourist spot, expressing hope that an increased influx of tourists to the state would contribute to reducing unemployment in the region.
The event also featured speeches by MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Chief Engineer PWD (Roads) Shillong, D Langstang, Headman of Wahiajer S Laloo, and K Shylla, president of the ML72 Rising Society.
