SHILLONG, Dec 5: The Upper Lumparing area in Shillong is set for a significant upgrade in sports infrastructure, with plans underway to construct a state-of-the-art multi-sports complex.
On Wednesday, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai inspected the Mynsain football ground, which will be transformed into a modern sporting hub. The proposed complex will feature an artificial football turf, futsal turf, swimming pool and volleyball court.
The Forest department has agreed to hand over three acres of land for the project, while the local authorities will allocate approximately 15 acres to the Forest Department for an afforestation programme.
Expressing his vision for the project, Shullai, while stating that he aims to create one of the best sporting infrastructures in the area, informed that the matter has been discussed with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who has assured funding for the proposal.
Shullai also appealed to the public to support the initiative, highlighting its potential to benefit the local community.
He said many visitors will come here for the sports facilities, and the nearby ropeway project will further boost tourism.
“I request residents to support these projects as they will provide significant livelihood opportunities,” he added.
The inspection was also attended by officials from the Forest department, local leaders and residents.
