JOWAI, Dec 12: A group of differently-abled individuals, primarily those with visual impairments, called on West Jaintia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner FB Basan, calling for access to Special Job Cards and Special Ration Cards under government schemes.
The delegation, led by Kelvin Suting and Krishna Phawa, raised concerns over the exclusion of many disabled residents from receiving Special Job Cards under the 100 Days Work Scheme.
Phawa, who is visually impaired, stressed that having a Special Job Card is their fundamental entitlement, yet many remain deprived of this essential support. Advocates like Durka Sari and Kelvin Suting, both recipients of Special Job Cards, voiced their hope that all disabled individuals would be granted equal access to these government benefits.
Meanwhile, Basan, who is also the Project Director of the Rural Development Agency (DRDA), assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken to ensure that differently-abled individuals are granted their rightful access to Special Job Cards.
He also committed to assisting them in obtaining Special Ration Cards.
