SHILLONG, Dec 13: Residents of Lumparing Pyllun will soon benefit from a functional Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in their area, which is set to be operational by September next year, according to South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai.
Currently, residents must travel to Laban or other parts of the city for medical treatment. The new facility, however, will provide essential healthcare services locally.
The South Shillong MLA, who inspected the project on Friday, confirmed that the UPHC would offer treatment for various ailments and handle emergency cases.
He also expressed concern over the current situation, where residents have to travel 10-12 kilometres to avail proper medical care.
Shullai then went on to extend his gratitude to the Dorbar Shnong for donating 6,000 square feet of land free of cost for the project, which, according to the MLA, is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.
During the inspection, he also shared updates on other healthcare improvements, noting that the Laban State Dispensary, established during the British rule, and the Shastri State Dispensary are being renovated at a combined cost of over Rs 50 lakh.
Later in the day, Shullai also reviewed the progress of two road projects, viz. the construction of a road from Jingkieng Kong Nora Hynniewta and Ekindro Diengdoh to the existing PWD road, and the construction of a PWD motorable road over a stream connecting to the Lower Lumparing PWD road.
It may be mentioned that the South Shillong MLA was accompanied by Health Department officials, contractors and local residents for the inspection.
