Noted Shillong-based chemist Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri no more

SHILLONG, Dec 14: Dr Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri, an internationally acclaimed inorganic chemist and former Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, passed away, on Friday. He was from Shillong.
Chaudhuri earned his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and later completed his Dr. rer. nat. from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He served as a professor at NEHU and later as the head of the Chemistry Department at IIT Guwahati before becoming the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University in 2007, a position he held until 2017. A recipient of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1989, Dr Chaudhuri made significant contributions to chemical sciences. Beyond academia, he played a vital role in Assam’s education sector, serving as an advisor to the state’s Education department and advocating for higher education development there.
