Workshop on life skills for underprivileged children in Shillong

SHILLONG, Dec 16: Meghalaya Together, in collaboration with SPARK, a Shillong-based NGO supporting underprivileged children, organised a workshop titled ‘Life Skills: Development Program’ at the National Institute for Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, on Monday. The event, held in the institute’s amphitheater with support from the NIFT administration, brought together 40 children from underprivileged families in the area.
The workshop commenced with an opening address by SPARK founder Shima Modak, setting the tone for the day. It was followed by engaging sessions led by Vegonia Nongpluh, general secretary of Meghalaya Together; Hiranmoy Dutta, Executive Member of the organisation; and Avner Pariat, a poet and social activist. The event was moderated by renowned quiz master Dharamraj Joshi.
The sessions featured interactive games and activities that were both educational and enjoyable for the children. A cake-cutting ceremony and the distribution of gifts marked the programme’s conclusion. Each child received a customised bag and winter caps, sponsored by supporters of Meghalaya Together. Winners of the games were presented with the illustrated storybook U Khun Syiem Ha Ri Hynniewtrep, authored and illustrated by Bhogtoram Mawroh, Joshua Rynjah, and Benjamin Syiem.
Treasurer of Meghalaya Together, Debojyoti Gupta Roy, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to SPARK, NIFT, and all contributors. The event was hailed as a success, and Meghalaya Together expressed its commitment to future collaborations with SPARK to continue supporting underprivileged children in the region.
