Party releases list of candidates for JHADC elections

JOWAI, Dec 18: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Wednesday threw brickbats at the MDA-2.0 government, accusing it of failing to meet public expectations by citing issues such as poor governance, unemployment, economic setbacks, and rising public debt.
Addressing the gathering at a public meeting held at the Ummlong Stand, Iawmusiang Jowai, Basaiawmoit elaborated on the principles and work ethic of the VPP, stressing its commitment to justice, fairness and the rights of indigenous people.
He said that the party adheres strictly to constitutional principles, with the Executive Committee holding the highest authority within the organisation.
Calling the upcoming elections to the autonomous district councils (ADCs) a “semi-final” before the 2028 Assembly elections, Basaiawmoit urged the public to support the VPP’s vision for change.
On the occasion, the VPP announced 29 candidates for the elections to Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) scheduled for February 2025.
The VPP president assured that the candidates were carefully chosen for their dedication and commitment to the party’s core values and the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, accusing the state government of failing to provide effective governance and its inability to address the challenges faced by the common people, Basaiawmoit expressed hope that the candidates of the VPP would serve as torchbearers of the party’s values and policies, with an ambitious target of securing 70 percent of the seats in both the KHADC and JHADC elections.
It may be mentioned that the meeting, organised by Rijied Lamin, was attended by key party leaders, including secretary of the State Election Committee Dr. Londoner Sohtun, chairman of the State Election Committee and Vice President of VPP Dr. Kara Chen, et al.
