Students feted at city event for completing courses
SHILLONG, Dec 21: ACCENTUATE Makeup & Hair Academy held its certification ceremony here on Saturday and felicitated the first batch of students who completed their professional makeup and hairstyling courses. The event was attended by East Khasi Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner Shanborlang Warjri as the chief guest, alongside the academy’s founder and renowned makeup artist and hairstylist, Badap Hynniewta. During the programme, Warjri presented certificates to seven students from the academy, which began operations in July this year. The certified students are Wallamlang Nongsiej, Wanlam Jarain, Pyntngen Dykes, Clarisa Pariat, Tralin Wahlang, Steffaney Lyngdoh and Phibannity Pyngrope. Speaking to reporters, Hynniewta shared that the courses offered include a three-month professional programme and short-term hairstyling and makeup courses. The students received foundational training in various techniques, including day and evening makeup, party and bridal hairstyling, and makeup looks. The academy, according to its founder, also incorporates social media marketing into its curriculum, recognising its importance in promoting one’s work. Additionally, it offers specialised courses such as a two-week program, a one-and-a-half-month fashion tutorial, and prosthetic makeup training for magazine shoots and runway looks. Hynniewta explained that many students are pursuing advanced courses in fashion makeup, while others are equipped to start working in beauty parlours after completing the three-month program. “My goal is to provide the best training and skills to aspiring artists from the state,” he stated. Reflecting on his journey, Hynniewta shared the challenges he faced before returning to his hometown after 26 years to share his expertise with the youths of Meghalaya.
Conference prepares for NSS 80th round data collection
SHILLONG, Dec 21: A Regional Training Conference was organised at the Office Conference Hall, Regional Office Shillong, from December 17 to 18, followed by Field Training on December 20, to equip personnel for the upcoming 80th round of the National Sample Survey (NSS). According to a statement, this training focused on imparting knowledge on concepts, definitions and procedures for collecting data on health and telecom-related indicators. The 80th round of the NSS, scheduled from January 1 to December 31, 2025, will focus on Social Consumption: Health and a Comprehensive Modular Survey on Telecom. The health survey aims to generate quantitative data on the health sector, including the prevalence rate of morbidity across age and gender groups in different regions. The telecom survey will gather critical information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills to support departments such as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Data collection for these surveys will be carried out by trained field staff using uniform terminology and meticulously designed schedules. The collected data will assist the Central and State Governments in development planning and policy decisions.
