SHILLONG, Dec 28: The Opposition Congress has criticised MLAs and leaders who left the party to join the NPP, claiming their loyalty lies with the Congress while their interests align with the NPP.
“In the NPP, many key figures, including the Deputy Chief Ministers and several Ministers, were originally from the Congress. These are people whose pockets are with the NPP, but their hearts remain with the Congress,” said MPCC Chief Vincent H. Pala.
He made these remarks while discussing the departure of MLAs and MDCs from the Congress to the NPP.
Responding to allegations that the Congress is being labelled as “Team B” of the NPP, Pala remarked, “Those who accuse the Congress of being Team B of the NPP are the very people who have already left the Congress.”
The Congress has occasionally faced criticism for aligning with the NPP in the KHADC while continuing as the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. Recently, the party withdrew its support from the NPP-led executive committee in the KHADC, a move that has drawn criticism from various political parties, labelling it a political stunt ahead of the upcoming KHADC and JHADC elections.
