Ranikor MLA allocates Rs 33.73 lakh for football playground development

MAWKYRWAT, Jan 11: Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein on Friday handed over a work order worth Rs 33.73 to the Umpung Athletic Sports and Cultural Club for the development of a football playground at Umpung village, located 60 km from Mawkyrwat under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division in South West Khasi Hills district.
The funds include Rs 10 lakh sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) 2023-24 and Rs 23.73 lakh under CMSDF 2024-25 for the construction of a gallery and fencing for the playground.
Phaining Thongni, president of the Umpung Athletic Sports and Cultural Club, received the work order in the presence of Umpung Myntri Wallesson Khardewsaw and other local dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Marwein said he, as a young leader and sports enthusiast, is committed to improving sports infrastructure to benefit the youths in his constituency.
He urged the Umpung Athletic Sports and Cultural Club, women’s organisation and village authorities to ensure proper utilisation of the funds, making it a valuable asset for the community.
Marwein also acknowledged the issues raised by Umpung residents through the Myntri and assured them of his efforts to bring development to Umpung and other villages in the constituency.
While refraining from making promises, he reiterated his dedication to addressing the region’s needs.
