MLA inaugurates Rotary-funded public toilet in Jowai stadium

JOWAI, Jan 15: Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday inaugurated a public toilet, funded by the Rotary Club Jowai, at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Jowai.
The inaugural event was attended by West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police C. Syrti, District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah, Rotary Zone 13 Assistant Governor Rtn. G Pradeep Pillai, Rtn. Barnabas Nangbah, officials from the West Jaiñtia District Sports Association, and members of the Rotary Club Jowai.
During the programme, president of Rotary Club Jowai, Rtn. Rudolf E. Laloo, highlighted  the organisation’s contributions over the past 30 years for the welfare of the Jaintia Hills region.
He also detailed the collaboration behind this project, implemented by Rotary Club Jowai, West Jaiñtia District Sports Association, and the MLA of the Jowai constituency, through the Jowai Municipal Board under the 15th Finance Commission Award 2020-21 (TIED Grant).
The project, initially planned on February 22, 2022, was officially inaugurated on January 14, 2025, ahead of the 6th Meghalaya Games in Jowai.
Speaking on the occasion, Pillai praised the Rotary Club Jowai for its extensive humanitarian initiatives and highlighted Rotary International’s theme for the year, ‘The Magic of Rotary’.
Shylla, who is also the Chairman of MUDA Shillong, acknowledged the challenges involved in such projects, particularly in maintaining them post-construction.
He urged the Rotary Club Jowai and the West Jaintia District Sports Association to ensure the facility remains in good condition for public use.
On the occasion, certificates of appreciation were presented to Rotary Club Jowai members for their efforts in completing the project.
The programme concluded with performances by Lorenzo and Rikdup Laloo.
