SHILLONG, Jan 24: Meghalaya Governor, CH Vijayashankar, on Friday praised the state’s remarkable journey since attaining statehood in 1972, noting its progress in education, tourism and sustainable development.
The Governor was addressing a gathering during at the Statehood Day celebration of Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Manipur, which was organised at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Shillong.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Governor lauded the unique identities and contributions of each state.
He expressed optimism for peace and unity in Manipur, commended Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, and acknowledged Uttar Pradesh’s pivotal role in India’s historical and developmental journey.
The highlight of the event was a series of vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the diverse traditions of the four states. The audience was enthralled by Meghalaya’s Khasi and Garo dances, Tripura’s Hojagiri dance, Manipur’s classical Ras Lila and Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Geet performance.
