SHILLONG, Feb 2: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has lashed out at Congress leader and sitting MLA from Mylliem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh for allegedly bringing religion into politics.
“He is the one repeatedly bringing religion into the picture. Maybe he has it in his mind — consciously or subconsciously. He seems to be playing the religious card in his own constituency, which is why he is so focused on this issue. Perhaps he is doing so discreetly, and we are unaware of it,” said VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh. He added, “What you are really good at sometimes slips out from your mouth.”
Myrboh made these remarks in response to Lyngdoh’s accusations that the VPP was using religion in politics.
Addressing another allegation by Lyngdoh that VPP’s Mylliem candidate, Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait, misled voters by claiming she had completed her education in Theology during the 2023 Assembly election, Myrboh dismissed the claim.
“She did not mention it in her affidavit. Not including something in the affidavit does not mean you are lying. Lying is when you claim something in the affidavit that you do not have. If she has the qualification but chose not to include it, that is not lying,” he explained.
“Let Ronnie conduct his private investigation and complete whatever process he deems necessary,” Myrboh added.
