Shillong, Feb 7: After a month-long stretch of away fixtures, Shillong Lajong FC are set to return to familiar territory as they take on league leaders Namdhari FC in a crucial I-League encounter at SSA Stadium, Polo, on Saturday at 7 PM.
Having played four consecutive matches on the road, Lajong will be eager to capitalise on home advantage and the support of their passionate fans.
The stakes are high, as only eight points separate Lajong, currently seventh on the table with 16 points from 12 matches, from the top-placed Namdhari FC, who have amassed 24 points from an equal number of games.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference earlier today, Lajong head coach Jose Carlos Rodriguez Hevia expressed his excitement about returning to their home ground. “It’s always special to play in front of our supporters. The team is well-prepared, and we’re looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.
We aim for all three points, which will help us close the gap with Namdhari,” said Hevia. The upcoming clash promises to be an intense battle, with both teams eyeing maximum points.
A win for Lajong would narrow the gap at the top to just five points, injecting fresh momentum into their campaign.
On the other hand, Namdhari will be determined to maintain their stronghold at the summit of the table.
Fans who can’t make it to the stadium can catch the action live on Sony Sports Channel, the SSEN mobile app, and the ssen.co website.
