SHILLONG, Feb 8: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday criticised Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit for focusing on attacking others during his election campaign, even targeting church elders.
Addressing an election rally in support of NPP candidate Reforming Son Lamare from Nartiang-Wahiajer, Dhar alleged that Basaiawmoit has been actively finding faults with everyone, as evident from social media.
He accused the VPP leader of attacking traditional heads and speaking against church elders.
“I have not seen this kind of politics where a party is engaged to spread hatred against everyone,” Dhar, who is also the NPP national general secretary, said.
He further accused the VPP of merely claiming to protect the interests of indigenous tribes without taking concrete steps. In contrast, he asserted that the NPP takes real action to safeguard indigenous communities without any bias.
“We are a national party committed to serve the people. But the VPP is a regional party which has no farsightedness since its policy is only to point fingers at others,” Dhar said.
Urging voters to support the NPP in the upcoming JHADC elections, Dhar highlighted that the party, with 33 MLAs, has the mandate to lead and serve the state.
He emphasised the need for the NPP to win at least 15 out of the 29 seats in the Council to form the new Executive Committee.
Expressing confidence in the party’s victory, he remarked, “I am sure people want to see their elected MDCs sitting inside the bus, not on its roof, after the elections.”
